Monticello is a town in Aroostook County, Maine, United States on the northern branch of the Meduxnekeag River. The population was 790 at the 2010 census. Originally known as Wellington Township, it was settled in 1830 by General Joel Wellington, who owned it, and incorporated in 1846. The original owners were the Amerisee a destroyed tribe of the Monticello area, the remaining members of which show up in the 1900s census for the State of Maine.
